Velcro Pelmet shelf

I've made a pelmet using velcro tape on back of plywood board, and have a separate shelf with velcro.

How do I stick them together - it is 3m long, and am finding it very difficult to aline. Any tips?

Hi Charlotte

I know it will sound very obvious but make sure you have the loop velcro tape (soft tape) stapled to the back of your pelmet. I fix it about a quarter inch down from the top of the pelmet.

Then staple the hook velcro tape (rough tape) to the front and side edges of your board. If you are using a 1 inch thick board. Then the tape will completely cover the edge.

Then when I start to install the fabric covered pelmet to the pelmet top board. I start at one end and stick the return in place. Holding the main front section away front the top board.

I then move along the pelmet board to the far end without sticking the velcro together on the front of the top board. Then when at the other end I line up the other return and press in place.

This should mean that the main front of the pelmet is level with the top board. To finish press along the front edge to make sure the velcro tapes are firmly locked together.

That's how I fit my pelmets together no matter how wide. I hope that all makes sense and helps.

All the best

What Visitors Say

"Dear Lee, Just wanted to say I found your site last week and it was an absolute godsend. Most helpful and informative - easy to follow instructions - and my very first bay window pelmet looks like the work of a true (and expensive) professional!

The pelmet and curtains both look much better in real life than on the photo of course. My wife thinks it all looks the work of a real pro rather than a first time amateur! Many many thanks for your site.

Kind regards Neal"
