It can be difficult when it comes to describing in writing how to go about sewing machine maintenance. So The I thought the best way for me to do it was to make this short video guide just below.
I find that watching someone do what you want to do yourself is always the best way of learning something new. I'm always checking out videos on youtube when I have a new job to do around my home.
It not complicated at all for you to keep your sewing machine well maintained and clean. It will become second nature to have quick clean up after every time you use your machine. Then to have a major clean up as in the video below after several sewing sessions.
It will pay dividends if you follow every maintenance step shown in this video as you will give you many years of trouble free sewing.
A little tip for many years of trouble free sewing is to use good quality sewing thread. When it comes to sewing thread, cheapest is definately not the best. Even though you can't see with the naked eye. Cheaper sewing threads have lots of loose fibers that will clog up your sewing machine faster than using a quality thread.
You can see the difference in thread qualities (enlarged 60X) here. So If you are not sure of the sewing threads quality. Then buy the smallest spool and try it out first.
So when it comes to sewing curtains if you want trouble free sewing. Then set your machine up correctly at the start and use a good quality thread.

"Dear Lee, Just wanted to say I found your site last week and it was an absolute godsend. Most helpful and informative - easy to follow instructions - and my very first bay window pelmet looks like the work of a true (and expensive) professional!
The pelmet and curtains both look much better in real life than on the photo of course. My wife thinks it all looks the work of a real pro rather than a first time amateur! Many many thanks for your site.
Kind regards Neal"
