Problem Hanging My Curtains ?

by Melissa
(Salt Lake City, Utah)

The apartment I just moved into has a rather old -looking

uncorded curtain track. How do I hang curtains from the track?

Most curtains I've found are either tabbed or have a rod pocket. This curtain track has little eyelets that hang underneath. How do I get my curtains to hang using these.

Do I need some kind of special hooks or something ?

Or maybe I need a special kind of curtain for this? SO Confused!

Any help or tips on what I can do would be great. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Melissa

It sound like you have a curtain track rather than a curtain rod. See the difference between the 2 curtain hanging systems just below.

uncorded curtain track

The curtain track in the picture above is fitted under a cornice board. The curtain being hung is a pencil pleat headed curtain. The kind that gathers by pulling the cords in the back of the header tape.

This creates the "pencil pleat" effect to the front on the curtain panel. This kind of track could just as easily be fitted directly to the wall over your window.

If so you will need curtains that hang from curtain hooks. If you intend to keep this curtain track. There are two curtain styles that would work if you keep your existing track.

The first curtain style is pinch pleat curtains. Watch the video using the link just above. This video shows how to hang this kind of curtain.

The second curtain style is pencil pleat curtains. Watch the video using the link just above. This video shows how to hang this kind of curtain.

If you decide you want to go with other styles of curtains such as tab top curtains or rod pocket drapes. Then you will need to replace your track with a decorative curtain rod. You could then thread the rod through the tabs or pocket to hang them.

You could also have a decorative curtain rod with curtain rings. These curtain rings slide along the rod and have a small eyelet under them to hang the pencil pleat and pinch pleat curtains I mentioned before.

I hope this makes it clearer for you and helps you get your new curtains hanging soon.

All The Best

What Visitors Say

"Dear Lee, Just wanted to say I found your site last week and it was an absolute godsend. Most helpful and informative - easy to follow instructions - and my very first bay window pelmet looks like the work of a true (and expensive) professional!

The pelmet and curtains both look much better in real life than on the photo of course. My wife thinks it all looks the work of a real pro rather than a first time amateur! Many many thanks for your site.

Kind regards Neal"
