Large Window TreatmentsWhen it comes to large window treatments it can be hard to know what is best way to dress these windows. You obviously want something that looks attractive. However you still want it to be practical. Then you also worry about how much it will cost to install window coverings on such large windows. My own personal feeling is to stick with simple window treatments. To often I see very large windows with to much going on with them. Take a look below here at some window treatments I have hung and get some large window treatment ideas for your home.
Cornice window treatmentThis large window treatments picture on the left was a bit of a challenge. Hanging drapes on this tall window required some long ladders. This window was very overlooked. and was in need of some privacy. So it was felt a single curtain dressed back in to a curtain tieback would work best. This still allowed enough light in to the room and the use of the door out on to the balcony. The curtain is left permanently pulled across the window. Then to close it is let out of the curtain tieback to fall back over the window. The top treatment is a fabric covered cornice window treatment. This was made deeper than usual to keep everything in proprtion to the height of this window treatment. This was a very easy window treatment to install other than being careful not to fall off my ladder. The ceiling sloped so I fitted shelf brackets to the window frame. Then installed a cornice top board on to the brackets. Then I fitted a traverse curtain rod to the underside of the top board for hanging curtains. The window treatment cornice was fixed in place using velcro tape.
Curved curtain rodsI hung pinch pleat curtains on this curved curtain rod. These curtains have a double pleat curtain heading. This works well in helping to make the curtain fall in to regular pleats. Simply put your curtains fall more naturally into their pleats meaning you don't have to spend much time dressing the curtains in place each time you use them. Personally i don't like using these curved curtain rods. This style of window curtain hardware uses special curtain rod rings. These have a gap in the back to allow them to pass over the special curtain rod brackets (passing brackets). The only problem is that they never seem to work very well. no matter how careful you are the curtain rod rings still catch on the curtain rod brackets.
Super wide cornice window treatmentThis is one of the widest cornice window treatments I have ever made and installed. I came in at just over 21 feet long. A real monster of a window treatment, I definately needed an extra pair of hands installing this window treatment. The pelmet was made with two folds so it could be transported to it fitting location and so we could get it in to the building. the drapes at either side are just show curtains used to decorate the sides. The curtains are hanging from short curtain rods on both sides.
Wide bay window treatmentWith this large window treatment it was decided to have the curtains closing across the front of the bay window. Rather than use a flexible bendable curtain track and have the curtains follow the window shape inside the bay. nstalling these curtains across the bay window allowed the curtains to hang from a little higher up. I think this gives a better overall look on this window. Also it allowed us to fit this chunky wooden curtain rod. These extra long curtain rods really make this window treatment look special.

"Dear Lee, Just wanted to say I found your site last week and it was an absolute godsend. Most helpful and informative - easy to follow instructions - and my very first bay window pelmet looks like the work of a true (and expensive) professional!
The pelmet and curtains both look much better in real life than on the photo of course. My wife thinks it all looks the work of a real pro rather than a first time amateur! Many many thanks for your site.
Kind regards Neal"
