What are easy window treatments ?

well for me they need to be simple window treatments that are easy to hang and dress.

So that means not having to use curtain hooks of any kind.

Not having to pull the header tape cords to create the pleats.

It also means using the simplest window treatment hardware you can buy.

The best kind of window curtain hardware

When it comes to window curtain hardware these ones just below are as simple as you can get. Just a curtain rod with decorative curtain rod finials for the ends. Then a minimum of two curtain rod brackets to support the curtain rod. On window over 60 inches wide it is best to use three brackets one for the center.

How to hang curtains

When fixing the curtain rod brackets to the wall over your window. The best place to install them is around 5 inches over the top of your window. Also they are best set out 3 to 5 inches past the window on both sides.

The reason for hanging curtain rods at this height is that if you're using grommet drapes or tab drapes. Then you won't see the top of the window between the grommets or tabs. This just does'nt look right. The reason for getting your curtain rod to pass the window a few inches on both sides. Is to allow your curtains to pull back off the window for maximum light and view.

Ideally when your curtains are open the leading edges should be just covering the glass earea of your window for the best look and use.

Now I know you can get the kind of curtain rods that have brackets that grip the inside of your window trim. they hold up under tension from the rod pushing against the sides of the window. I personally would not use these even though they seem like a really easy window treatment hardware solution.

The problem is that everyone including me wants to pay cheap, but we don't want to get cheap. That is what these tension rods are, plus your curtains won't hang at the right height or width on these curtain rods either. I have put a picture of this rod here on the right just so you know what to avoid.
